BIY: Matcha Coconut Mask

If perfection came in the form of a beverage, it might just be a matcha latte made with coconut milk. This earthy, creamy dream drink warms the soul, nourishes the body and is delightful to the senses—taste, smell and sight. Even the tactile practice of stirring it up with a bamboo whisk stimulates the sense of touch.

Matcha and coconut are most definitely in the modern health-food lexicon. In fact, go to any hip juice joint and their influence is palpable. But they’re more than just drinkable superfoods. Ancient civilizations from Japan to the Pacific Islands have tapped into their healing properties for centuries.

And as if matcha and coconut needed any more reason to be staples in every wellness enthusiast’s kitchen, they happen to be incredible as topical cures, too. In LOLI’s Matcha Coconut Paste, these anti-inflammatory and antioxidant-rich hero ingredients team up to create a base for a mask that’s calming, brightening and purifying for all types of skin—but especially those with acne, rosacea or psoriasis.

The chlorophyll in matcha helps detox the skin and reduce sebum production—bye, 2 p.m. shine and oil-induced breakouts. Matcha also has the antioxidant EGCG, which slows cell degeneration that leads to aging. Coconut contains tons of vitamins and minerals, including copper to minimize wrinkles, sagging and age spots, and phosphorous to brighten the complexion.

But it doesn’t stop there. The paste is also enriched with kaolin clay to draw out toxins and impurities and to refine pores and leave skin looking tight. There’s also moringa leaf powder to protect skin from environmental pollutants; peppermint leaf extract to invigorate the complexion and cool down redness; papaya leaf extract to induce glow and balance oil production; and amla fruit extract to treat pimples. (FYI: The sacred amla tree has long been worshipped in India as the Earth Mother.)

If you only want one mask for keeping skin looking fresh and radiant, a quick little BIY matcha coconut mask is everything. Mix it with Blue Cornflower Water for extra brightening, cooling and hydration. Regular distilled or purified water works just fine, too. Use it one to three times a week depending on skin sensitivity.
